I started Paul Mac Carpentry over 30+ years of combined craftsmanship with one simple goal… to build homes that people genuinely love living in. Even back then, I knew that great construction was about more than just lumber and nails. It’s about understanding how families actually move through their spaces, where the morning light hits the kitchen counter, how a hallway flows when kids are rushing to get ready for school.
After spending years learning every aspect of the trades, from framing and roofing to the detailed finishing work that makes a house feel like a home, I realized something important. I wanted to work directly with homeowners, not just build for developers or flip through projects without seeing the impact. I wanted to be there when a family walks into their newly renovated kitchen for the first time and their faces light up because it’s exactly what they’d been dreaming about.
Growing up in Ontario, I learned the value of honest work early on. My father used to say, “If you’re going to do something, do it right, or don’t do it at all.” That stuck with me. Whether I’m restoring a heritage home in Picton that’s been standing for over a century or creating a modern kitchen that becomes the gathering place for a young family in Belleville, every project reflects that philosophy. It’s about precision, pride in the details, and the deep satisfaction that comes from knowing your work will last.
What started as a small carpentry operation, just me and my tools, has grown into a full-service general contracting company. But here’s the thing… the foundation has never changed. It’s still about quality you can see and feel, trust you can count on, and craftsmanship that stands the test of time.
At Paul Mac Carpentry, I believe every renovation should do three things: add real value to your home, improve how you live in it, and bring you genuine joy every time you walk into that space. That belief isn’t just something I say, it drives how I approach every project, whether it’s a small bathroom update or a full addition.
I don't believe in cutting corners, ever. When we're framing an addition, every joint is checked. When we're installing trim, every angle is precise. I build like I'm working on my own home because I know these projects need to hold up through Ontario's harsh winters, humid summers, and everything in between. Your renovation should look as good in 20 years as it does the day we finish.
You'll always know what's happening and why. Clear estimates before we start, straightforward communication throughout the project, and absolutely no surprises halfway through when you're already committed. If something unexpected comes up (and in renovation work, it sometimes does), we talk about it right away and figure out the best path forward together.
As a small, local business rooted in this community, I understand the building codes inside and out. I know which materials perform best in our climate. I recognize the design preferences that make sense for heritage homes versus modern builds. When you work with someone who's been here for three decades, that local knowledge makes a real difference in the quality and longevity of your project.
Here’s what matters most to me: when you work with Paul Mac Carpentry, you’re not dealing with layers of subcontractors who’ve never met the person running the company, or distant project managers reading from a script. You’re working directly with me, the craftsman who’s personally accountable for every detail, every decision, and every outcome.
After 30+ years of combined craftsmanship in the trades, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to turn my skills into something that matters for local families. My background covers just about everything you can do to a home: construction management from the ground up, complete bathroom and kitchen renovations, basement finishing that turns unused space into functional living areas, and additions that blend so seamlessly with the original structure that you’d swear they were always there.
Something clients tell me again and again is that they appreciate my communication and reliability as much as the actual carpentry work, and honestly, that means the world to me. I’ve seen too many contractors who do beautiful work but leave homeowners in the dark, or who communicate well but don’t follow through. I believe you deserve both. I take the time to really understand how you want to live in your home, ask the questions that matter, listen carefully to your answers, and then tailor each build to fit that specific vision.
Over the years, I’ve also built strong working relationships with some of the best electricians, plumbers, and designers across the region. These aren’t random subcontractors I found in a directory, these are professionals I’ve worked alongside for years, people who share the same commitment to quality and customer care. When your project needs specialized work beyond carpentry, you can trust that every person who steps into your home meets the same high standards.
After three decades of working across Prince Edward County, Belleville, Deseronto, and Kingston, I’ve learned something fundamental: trust isn’t given, it’s earned one project at a time. Homeowners count on me for craftsmanship that genuinely lasts, pricing that’s fair and transparent, and a design-build approach that keeps everything coordinated under one roof so you’re not juggling multiple contractors or playing telephone between different companies.
Here’s what sets us apart:
But you know what? You don’t have to just take my word for it. Here’s what actual homeowners across the region are saying.
Those kinds of relationships, that trust and satisfaction, are exactly what keep me doing this work year after year. My goal has always been simple: make your renovation stress-free, predictable, and built to the absolute highest standard. When past clients become friends who call me for their next project, or refer their neighbors and family members, that’s when I know I’m doing it right.
Your home should reflect your lifestyle and support the way you actually want to live, not limit you or frustrate you every single day. If you’re ready to start planning your next renovation, addition, or custom carpentry project, I’d genuinely love to hear your ideas and talk through what’s possible.
I’ll provide an honest consultation with no pressure tactics, a clear plan that makes sense for your budget and timeline, and craftsmanship that stands the test of time. No upselling features you don’t need, no pressure to decide on the spot, just genuine advice and straightforward guidance from someone who’s been building in this region for over 30+ years of combined craftsmanship and has seen just about everything.
Your vision matters. Your investment matters. And the end result, the home you’ll live in and love every day, matters most of all.
